The Corona Pandemic (Covid-19) created deep changes in the higher education system around the world. This transformation brought opportunities and challenges for the internationalization of higher education in Iran and the world and significantly overshadowed educational approaches and structures. The current research has been conducted with a qualitative approach, looking for opportunities and challenges to promote the process of internationalization of higher education. In this regard, in-depth semi-structured interviews have been conducted with 17 leading experts and specialists in the field of internationalization of higher education.
The analysis of the text of the interviews in the first stage led to the extraction of 262 expressions as primary codes. Then, these codes were examined and revised in different stages and finally, related opportunities, challenges and solutions were presented in the form of separate categories. The findings of the research show that most of the participants consider the Corona pandemic as an opportunity for the presence of Iranian higher education in the international arena and believe that this crisis has accelerated the process of internationalization of higher education. In addition, the results indicate that by adopting a suitable approach and turning challenges into opportunities, effective steps can be taken to promote higher education in the post-corona era.
