It is important to analyze the causal relationship between academic research and economic growth to provide a perspective for research policy making in higher education as well as to achieve economic growth and development. However, in the field of academic research and continuous economic growth, different discrepancies and findings have been obtained. Therefore, in the first part, with descriptive-analytical approach by problem analysis, theoretical foundations, methodology, achievements, criticism and evaluation, and applications, it analyzes the anatomy of academic research and economic growth and in the second part, using qualitative method specifically the cross-combining strategy after searching articles in the period (1990–2018) (1977-2007) with related keywords was selected 41 articles and finally, after reading and reviewing, 14 articles were selected and analyzed using MaxiDua software, were analyzed. The results of this analysis were 4 subcategories (Policy, Management-Executive, Human Resource Management and Academic System) and 57 key concepts that were quantitatively represented in percent diagrams and accordingly the status of the higher education system and the proposed policies were presented.
